Slay 4 A Cause is a community dedicated to becoming the beacon of hope that Kidney Warriors, Caretakers, Medical Professionals, Researchers and Organizations that champion their cause so desperately need. It's the same hope Richard (Rick) Slayman offered the world through his selfless and courageous participation in the groundbreaking Xenotransplantation.
No one should stand alone in battling a diagnosis of kidney failure. Nor should anyone stand alone in caring for individuals fighting or healing from this deadly disease. Our goal is to alleviate some of the heavy burdens individuals face when battling kidney disease. Our efforts are intended to continue Rick’s legacy and is done so in memory of him. This is the cause and reasons for our slay. #slay4acause

We are excited to announce that Slay 4 A Cause is now accepting nominations for our Emerald Giving 2025 honorees—those who embody strength, compassion, and dedication in the fight against kidney disease.
This year, we are proud to recognize:

Kidney Warriors those who have shown extraordinary courage through their personal journeys with kidney disease.

Caregivers those who are partners, neighbors, family, coworkers who have committed their time in supporting kidney warriors.

Medical Providers those who have gone above and beyond their responsibilities and/or supporting the advancement of science and medicine.
Honorees will be celebrated during our virtual Emerald Giving 2025 ceremony and will receive special recognition for their impact. These honorees will receive a monetary gift as a gesture of support and acknowledgment of their journey.
We invite you to nominate an individual whose story deserves to be shared with the world. Whether it’s a patient, caregiver, physician, volunteer, or other service providers—help us shine a light on those who uplift and inspire others.

Emerald Giving 2025
Emerald Giving is our 2nd annual celebration honoring the life and legacy of Richard “Rick” Slayman-a loving father, a devoted son, a committed partner, a man whose extraordinary courage through his toughest times continued to inspire hope amongst Kidney Warriors, their caregivers, the medical community, and organizations that champion their causes. Emerald Giving 2025 is more than an event; it’s a movement bringing light, hope, and support to communities impacted by kidney disease.
This year we proudly kick-off our celebration once again with a 5K walk in support of the Kidney Foundation and its vital mission to fight kidney disease and support those affected by it.
In keeping with last year’s tradition, we are honored to serve the women of Rosie’s Place in honor of Rick’s compassionate spirit. As part of our service, we will caterer and serve the women of this sanctuary and provide self-care items to assist in their time of need and hardship. Your support towards this cause is a direct extension of Rick’s spirit of service, self-ness and love for community.
Emerald Giving 2025 will conclude by celebrating Rick’s birthday on October 12, 2025, with a virtual gathering filled with reflections, connections and purpose. Our goal is to recognize kidney warriors, their strength and resilience with a monitory donation. Your contribution is intended to help ease some of the hardships that come along with this life altering disease. We will end the event with a nationwide candlelight vigil and a call for action.

Rick made a selfless sacrifice to undergo this groundbreaking procedure, not just for himself but for the future of medicine and the hope it provided. His sacrifice illuminated new possibilities, advanced scientific understanding, and paved the way for others-like Tim Andrews, Towana Looney, and Lisa Pisano and those who will come after them-to have options that once seemed impossible.
